How You Can Help
We are a registered charity and depend on volunteers to provide our service. If you can spare just a few hours each week there are many ways in which you can help.Advice Work - Admin Work - Trustee Board - Donations - Sponsorship
Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and experience. They give their time for many different reasons. Some are polishing up their job skills, some are filling in time in retirement. Others want to do something challenging or just different from the rest of their daily routine. Our volunteers share a team spirit and comradeship, and provide a valuable and rewarding service. All our volunteers are bound by our confidentiality policy.
Advice Work
Most of our advisers are volunteers. We provide full training and pay your travel expenses. Volunteer advisers must be over 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit for volunteers. You don't need any qualifications, and you don't have to memorise large amounts of information as we train you to use our information system, which tells you all you need to know. There is always support and help available from an experienced member of staff. You do need to be able to read and understand information, have basic maths (we do provide calculators), have an open attitude, and work within the Aims and Principles of the CAB Service. If you have basic computer skills, that is a bonus! We can, however, help you to learn these skills if you need us to. We also ask that you provide a regular commitment (apart from your holidays) of one full day (10-4) each week. If you have caring commitments at particular times, for example during school holidays, we can accommodate these in most circumstances. Admin Work
Volunteer Administration Workers. There are a number of administrative tasks at the CAB. For example, our case notes need filing and regular weeding, and our local information needs updating regularly. If you have admin skills, we would like to hear from you. We also need people with typing skills, who can use Word or Locoscript. We are computerised, but we still use manual filing systems in many areas, so whether your skills are in computerised or manual systems, we could use your help. Unlike advice work, there is no minimum commitment, so you could just work a couple of hours a week when you are available. We pay your travelling expenses. Voluntary Management Trustee Board
The Citizens Advice Bureau, in common with other charities, is run by a management committee. The members are responsible for the overall running of the service, and for ensuring we conform to the rules laid down by the Charity Commission. Board members can represent specific groups, or simply be interested members of the community. Our aim is to encourage as wide a range of members as possible. The Board meets roughly once every 2 months. Training is available. If you contact us, we can give you more information about what is involved.

We rely on donations and fundraising to maintain our service at the highest possible level. Whether you wish to make a donation in cash or in kind (for example, your time, expertise, resources, ideas or items to raffle), please contact us. We are pleased to give publicity to our donors, but you can, of course, remain anonymous if you wish.
